About

Arlene Burnett is a Birmingham based artist. Her work is primarily interested with the transformation of spaces, where she often inhabits spaces in a state of flux and creates temporary artworks in response to the environment. The process and outcomes are documented with photographs which often become the work in their own right.

Arlene also works collaboratively with artist Paul Newman whom she met whilst studying a Masters in Fine Art at The University of Central England, 2004. Together they formed the group Behind Closed Doors, who have been responsible for projects such as A Confidentiality Clause, The Haddon Tower Project, Spaces and Places and The Secret Garden. Behind Closed Doors are currently working on the ongoing project The Rea Garden.

Arlene’s work isĀ  site responsive and is generally temporary in nature, however the work is often photographed with the photographs becoming works in their own right. A selection of photographs were recently on display at De Montford Hall Leicester, as part of the City Gallery’s offsite programme.
